The Spanish 3 and 4 classes took part in our annual tradition of creating "ofrendas" for Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). Students learned about the history and culture surrounding this celebration and the significance of items placed on the ofrenda. Working in groups, the students constructed the altars in honor of a loved one or a famous person. Each group presented their ofrenda to the class in Spanish, describing each of the items and their importance. The students really enjoyed this activity, and it was a great way for them to incorporate culture into their language learning.
